Ingredients

  • 8 cups peeled and sliced apples (Sliced ¼-inch thick. Use Granny Smith and Honey Crisp apples.)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup gluten-free all-purpose flour (Pillsbury gluten-free or Better Batter)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg, whisked

Method

  1. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, vanilla extract, GF all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt for 1 minute to coat evenly.
  2. Pour the apple mixture into a 9-inch pie plate and spread evenly.
  3. Prepare the top crust and place it over the apples, then crimp the edges to seal.
  4. Cut 4-5 vents in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  5. Whisk 1 large egg with 1 tablespoon of water and brush it over the top crust.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 45-55 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and apples are tender.

Notes

- Use a mix of apple varieties like Granny Smith and Honeycrisp for the best flavor and texture.
- Ensure your gluten-free flour blend is suitable for baking pies.
- Let the pie cool completely before slicing to allow the filling to set properly.
